I is for Indications of Intimacy in the Hands

When you meet someone intriguing, it can be fun to check out their palms for signs of relationships, love, and marriage.

Shapes of Hands

Four general hand shapes are related to the four elements of Air, Earth, Fire, and Water:

Air Hands belong to intellectual and sociable people with square palms, long fingers, and thin, clear lines. They are commonly restless and in need of change and stimulation, mostly of the mental kind. As lovers, these people seek mental rapport above all else.

Earth Hands have a square palm, short fingers, strong or thick skin, and deep, clear, straight lines. Such hands belong to practical, down-to-earth people with vitality and a strong connection to nature and the outdoors. As lovers, they are usually quite dependable and straightforward.

Fire Hands have long palms, short fingers, plentiful and prominent lines, and firm, warm skin. These are the hands of risk-takers and action-oriented people. As lovers, these positive and confident folks are willing to take the lead.

Water Hands have long palms, long fingers, plenty of fine lines that are not always clear, and soft, damp skin. These hands indicate a creative, emotional person. As lovers, they are sensitive, vulnerable, a little naive, and focused on caring and being cared for.

The Thumb

The thumb’s flexibility is thought to measure how adaptable a person is. The more flexible the thumb, the more easy-going the character. A lack of flexibility suggests a stubborn person.

If the thumb narrows in the base phalange of the thumb, it is said to have a “waist.” The person with such a thumb is tactful and diplomatic in his or her relations with others.

Some consider the relative length of the thumb as an indicator of faithfulness. Longer thumbs are thought to indicate stronger characters who are faithful to others and to themselves.

The Lines on the Palm

The palm generally consists of the Major Lines, Secondary Lines, and Minor Lines.

A palm with numerous fine lines in addition to the Major Lines indicates a complex, sensitive person who is vulnerable to worries and outside influences. In general, the fewer the lines, the more straightforward the person.

The Three Major Lines as Indicators of Relationships

Of the three prominent lines on a palm, the top horizontal line is usually the Heart Line (Line A above.) This line indicates the affections. The higher this line is, the more passionate (and often more jealous) the person is. A Heart Line running straight across the hand suggests a controlled person emotionally. A Heart Line curving upward toward the Jupiter, or Index, finger indicates a warm-hearted, reasonable, and affectionate nature in relationships. Crosses and breaks on the Heart line are signs of periods of sadness and sorrow in love.

The middle horizontal line is the Head Line (Line B). This line indicates the type of intelligence a person possesses. The space between the beginning of the Head Line and the Life Line, if any, indicates how much cautiousness a person possesses. When these lines are joined at the beginning, the person has a rather cautious, and sometimes downright fearful, nature. The further apart, the more confident and risk-taking the individual is.

The curved line that generally swoops from near the base of the palm to the point between the thumb and first finger is the Life Line (Line C). A Life line that is wide, leaving plenty of room for the Mount of Venus, indicates a person with an expansive and giving nature in love. The closer the Life line is to the thumb, the less generous a person is with his time and energy.

An interesting secondary line concerning relationships is called the Line of Attachment or Marriage Lines. These lines appear above the heart line (just above point A). Light, fine horizontal lines found here are thought to indicate affairs that are not deep commitments. One long, clear line suggests a long-standing and happy marriage or commitment. More than one long, deep line is interpreted to mean the lower one is an earlier relationship in the person’s life.

The Mount of Venus

The Mount of Venus is found next to the thumb within the curved Life Line. Fleshiness here indicates a love of pleasure. A fleshy and firm Mount of Venus indicates a strongly sexual nature, as opposed to a flabby mount, which shows a low level of sexual vitality.

Prominent horizontal lines on the Mount of Venus indicate a person who strongly attracts lovers. Plenty of fine, grid-like lines going in different directions suggests a complex person in the area of love. Such a changeable character may frustrate lovers. Lots of fine lines indicate a person easily influenced by outside forces and just as easily fooled by his partners. A triangle on this mount indicates a person who may have extramarital affairs, and a crescent moon shape suggests someone with powerful seductive powers.

So watch out for those silver-tongued devils with hatch marks and a triangle on their Mount of Venus!

Tha…tha…that’s all, folks! Tune in tomorrow for J is for Jupiter (Finger and Mount)
